In the year 1807 on this day first steam ship 'Janagore' was floated on water from Khidirpur. In the year 1824 on this day first Indian Mint's foundation stone was layed at No. 47 Strand Road. On this day in the year 1882 Kolkata Telephone Exchange was started with only 50 subscribers.

I like the different hues of sunset. I mean at different places. Nalikul, a rural area of Bengal - plenty of trees and fields, cultivated or plain characterisation of this beautiful place. In the year 1883, on this day, the first women graduates of India passed the post-graduate examination - Kadambini Gangopadhyay and Chandramukhi Basu of Kolkata. They were Bengalee and the first women graduates of India. Just five years ago of this event, University of London started to give degrees to women. -- A. B.

In the year 1856, 4th March, eminent poet Toru Dutt was born in Kolkata. She educated in France and Cambridge. Later back in Kolkata and learnt Sanskrit. Her first published book 'Lelonte de lisle'. She translated sonnet of French poet in English and translated about 70-80 French poet's French poems in English and published a book named 'A Sheaf Gleaned In French Field'. Her famous book 'Ancient Ballads And Legends Of Hindusthan'- this collection of poems in English made history in the field of poetry. In the book 'The World Classics' edited by Richard Garnet, some of poems of Toru Dutt were included. A novel named 'Binaca' written by Toru Dutt was published on the then "Bengal Magazine". Toru Dutt died at the young age when she was only 21 years old.-- A. B.
