Ghetu Puja

Ghetu Puja is being observed today on Ghetu Sankranti in rural Bengal.
It is a traditional festival of rural areas. In the morning and
evening, kids come to every household with lantern, incense sticks and
Ghetu flowers to sing the songs of Ghetu. They collect small amount of
money from the household. It is the ritual of certain classes of rural
people.

Ghetu flowers are always bloom in the spring time mainly on the
roadside and waste lands. It is a white flower with sweet scent and
pink on the centre arranged in branched clusters. Hill Glory Bowed is
the common name of this flower. It's botanical name is Clerodendrum
Infortunatum. It belongs to the plant family Verbenaceae. This is
native to our region. We all know it by the names Ghetu, Ghontakorno,
Bhat and Bhaita.

yes ,We used to do GHETU PUJO in our village of Hoogly District .
We at our childhood used to decorate a GHETU PALKI with ghetu flower and other flowers too and used to go door to door to collect
GHETU JAY GHETU JAY GHOSH PARA
AAY RE GHETU NOREY , SHASTI KANSHE KOREY ...Je DEBE MUTHO MUTHO ___ .TAR DUAREY SONA CHHORAI .
After collecting those money and other material childred arrange for Picnic . THose days were really beautiful.

500 Year's Old Nimai Tirtha Ghat - Reminiscences Of Sri Chaitannya Deb

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Then had started his journey to Tarakeswar on foot. It took about 12 hours to reach Tarakeswar. Later, the bathing ghat was named on him and now known to all as Nimai Tirtha Ghat. So, the ghat is about 500 year's old. Kabikankan Mukundaram mentioned this ghat in his mangal kabya, about 400 years ago. Raja Harishchandra of Seoraphuly constructed Nistarini Mandir and Bhadrakali Mandir in the year 1827 beside NimaiTirtha Ghat. then, lakhs of pilgrims take bath on river Ganga from this ghat and take holy water, visit Ma Nistarini and Debi Bhadrakali near, then use to go for Tarakeswar on foot to pour that Gangajal on the shiblinga of Baba Taraknath.
