Traditional Durga Puja Of Simla Area

SIMLA BAYAM SAMITY: The inhabitants of north Kolkata know this 88
year's old puja as "বড়ো সিমলে"। Mahendra Dutta - the middle brother of
Swami Vivekananda initiated this puja in the year 1939. Traditional
debi pratima is the speciality of this puja. This year, the main
entrance of Golden Temple of Amritsar is being made here by jute and
coloured clothes. Basudeb Paul is the maker of idol.

TARUN SPORTING : It is on the opposite side of Simla Bayam Samity. In
this 71st year's puja, a piece of Sundarban would be seen here. The
theme is: "বনচারিণী দেবী রূপে স্বর্ণবর্ণা । অন্তরে বনবিবি বাহিরে
মৎস্যকন্যা"। Radha Raman Paul creating the idol of debi Durga in the
form of 'Bonbibi'. The pandal would like to be a mermaid. The greenish
mermaid seems to be a movable 'mayurpankhi' boat. 'Bonbibi' s 'than'
will be inside the pandal. The matched lighting would be there. And
the puja will be inaugurated on the day of Chaturthi.

VIVEKANANDA SPORTING CLUB : If you go through the Vivekananda Road,
you can find the puja of Vivekananda Sporting Club. The pandal will
be in the form of a tribal temple. Artists of Medinipur are building
the pandal. The clay artist: Mintu Paul. 'Annakut' utsav on the day of
Nabami is the speciality of this puja.

SIMLA SPORTING : It is situated on the other side of that road. The
inhabitants call it as 'ছোটো সিমলে'। Artist Baju Shraf is creating
the puja pandal in the form of Jhunjhun Temple of Rajasthan. He is
creating this temple by thermocol. It is their 76th year's puja.
Dhananjoy Paul is making the clay idols of debi Durga. For the first
time, tant sari would wear debi Durga. The traditions of old customs,
rituals and joyful celebrations would be maintained here as usual, it
is the wish of all.

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Highest Jagadhatri Idol Of Chandannagar : Fatakgora

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir Of Baranagar

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir of Baranagar, popularly known as Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is situated on the bank of river Hooghly at Baranagar of Kolkata. Baranagar is a very old place, more than 500 years ago this place was existed.  Famous zaminder Joyram Mitra of Sovabazar established this temple in mid-April of the year 1851. He bought about 3 bighas land at Baranagar from some James saheb and established the temple there similar to Brahmamoyee Kali temple of Mulajor of Shyamnagar.The goddess here is Dakshina Kali (দক্ষিণা কালী). If you walk from 'Kuthi ghat' of Baranagar river bank a few steps ahead, you'll reach to the temple - 171 years old this temple is situated by the side of Hara Kumar Thakur Strand.
