77th Death Anniversary Of Tagore




           Kolkata will observe 77th death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 8th August'17 (22 Shravan). On this occasion, a special programme will be held at Gandhi Bhavan of Jadavpur University. The inaugural song will be presented by the students of varsity. "Varshamangal" (বর্ষামঙ্গল) - a compilation of Tagore's rainy season songs will be performed by 'Kanikadhara' (কণিকাধারা) of Shantiniketan under the supervision of Priyam Mukhopadhyay. Prof. Sukanta Chowdhury will deliver speech on the subject "দেশকাল ও রবীন্দ্র-শিক্ষাভাবনা" (The country and time and ideas of Tagore about education). After that, VC Suranjan Das will talk about the internationalism of Tagore ("রবীন্দ্রনাথের আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ"). Shankha Ghosh, Nabanita Deb Sen and Sourin Bhattacharya will present there at the function.

           Various programmes will be held at 'Rabindra Tirtha' of New Town from 8th August to 27th August'17 to mark the occasion. On 8th at 5pm eminent artist Jogen Chowdhury will inaugurate the festival of "বৃক্ষরোপণ" (plantation of trees) which was initiated by Tagore. After that, Manoj Murali Nayyar and Madhubani Chattopadhyay will perform songs of Tagore and dance respectively. On other days, poems and songs of Tagore along with poetry of post-Tagore poets would also be presented there. Sayantan group of artists will perform a programme on the subject "দ্বিশততম জন্মবর্ষের আলোয় মহর্ষি দেবেন্দ্রনাথ ও ঠাকুরবাড়ির গান" (bi-centenary year of birth of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore and songs of Thakur Bari) on 27th August'17. 'Naayor' (নাইওর) will present a special programme on the same date i.e. on 27th August'17 at 'Coffeebook' of 23-A Sarat Bose Road at 6pm in which Aparajita Addhya, Tania Das, Madhumita Basu, Sukriti Lahari, Suchhanda Ghosh and Nandini Bhattacharya will participate. They would felicitate Madhabi Mukhopadhyay and Leena Gangopadhyay. On the other hand, Arindam Saha Sardar has made an audio-visual programme based on death of Tagore named "Arghya" (অর্ঘ্য) which will be shown at Uttarpara Jeevan Smriti Digital Archive on 8th August at 6:30 pm.

500 Year's Old Nimai Tirtha Ghat - Reminiscences Of Sri Chaitannya Deb

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Then had started his journey to Tarakeswar on foot. It took about 12 hours to reach Tarakeswar. Later, the bathing ghat was named on him and now known to all as Nimai Tirtha Ghat. So, the ghat is about 500 year's old. Kabikankan Mukundaram mentioned this ghat in his mangal kabya, about 400 years ago. Raja Harishchandra of Seoraphuly constructed Nistarini Mandir and Bhadrakali Mandir in the year 1827 beside NimaiTirtha Ghat. then, lakhs of pilgrims take bath on river Ganga from this ghat and take holy water, visit Ma Nistarini and Debi Bhadrakali near, then use to go for Tarakeswar on foot to pour that Gangajal on the shiblinga of Baba Taraknath.
