Kolkata In Heritage Transport Museum

The history of transport in Kolkata is one of the main attraction of
country's first and one & only Heritage Transport Museum. It is
situated at Bilaspur-Taoru Road of Gurgaon near Delhi.

From the baboo-culture of ancient Kolkata, to the evolution period of
transportation in 19th & 20th century, the old fragrance is being
tangled in the part of this museum. One can find here the old mail
van, covered bullock cart, chevrolet of 1947, phaeton car, old
photographs, hand-pulling rickshaws, vintage cars, train, plane, bus,
boat, scooter, and even the past time has been presented here lively.
Original poster, advertisement, photos of yesteryear's (100-150 year's
old) have been shown here.

Paintings of old Calcutta by Daniel, Solvence etc in which old
transports like palanquin (palki), phaeton, bullock cart etc had been
shown, are the main attraction of this museum. And these paintings are
in original. After these paintings, palanquin, howdah, and then the
initiation of wheels are there. This section has been opened by
hand-pulling rickshaw of Kolkata. Behind that, the famous horse-driven
mail van of the year 1900, made by Gibson co. And then the Keranchi
(covered bullock-cart for passengers used to run in old Calcutta). And
all those cars have been renovated in such a manner that it seem new.
In fact, all the 55 heritage motor cars, buses and other transports
are in running condition.

After that, Jodhpur Saloon is there. This luxurious wooden saloon of
British era, used to run in Bombay-Baroda section. 2 bedrooms,
bathroom, kitchen and living room are there inside the saloon. A
railway station of British period has been made there with the old
ticket vending machine. A seal of East Bengal Rail of the year 1938 is
on the machine. And several old advertisements of Britannia biscuits,
Lux soaps, Usha sewing machines, Agfa, Eveready, old perfumes, motor
parts etc are there on the walls of platform.

The oldest car has been exhibited here is the 1932 model chevrolet.
Buic of 1935 is there too. Moreover, Voxwagon, Hudson Sedan, Mercury
Sedan, Studibekar are there also. The first push-button convertible
cars, the red car of SRK in the film Dil To Paagal Hai are there. And
original posters of Bollywood films where trains, buses, cars have
been shown are also exhibited here. Many cars use to replace in every
three months and sculptures are use to change in every six months.

Fine toy cars, made by craftsmen of old Calcutta are the other
attraction of this museum.

500 Year's Old Nimai Tirtha Ghat - Reminiscences Of Sri Chaitannya Deb

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Then had started his journey to Tarakeswar on foot. It took about 12 hours to reach Tarakeswar. Later, the bathing ghat was named on him and now known to all as Nimai Tirtha Ghat. So, the ghat is about 500 year's old. Kabikankan Mukundaram mentioned this ghat in his mangal kabya, about 400 years ago. Raja Harishchandra of Seoraphuly constructed Nistarini Mandir and Bhadrakali Mandir in the year 1827 beside NimaiTirtha Ghat. then, lakhs of pilgrims take bath on river Ganga from this ghat and take holy water, visit Ma Nistarini and Debi Bhadrakali near, then use to go for Tarakeswar on foot to pour that Gangajal on the shiblinga of Baba Taraknath.
