Pithe-Puli (Sweetcake) Utsav At 6 Ballygunge Place

The traditional Pithe-Puli of Bengal is going to outdated. It is the
Sweetcake of Poush parban. When the pilgrims of Gangasagar will take
holy dip on the sagar sangam at the auspicious moments of Poush
sankranti, the Bengalees everywhere will enjoy the Pithe-Puli utsav
made of newly cropped rice with the help of nalen gur, patali, milk
and coconut. Although preparation of Pithe-Puli is laborious, the
elders of our family are still venture to make dudh-puli, mug-puli,
seddho pithe, chusi, patisapta on the occasion of Poush parban.

But if you have problems to prepare Pithe-Puli, and you have desire to
enjoy it, then go to 6 Ballygunge Place where Pithe-Puli festival is
going on from 12 January to 16 January 2014 where the patrons of vivid
traditional Pithe-Puli will find opportunities to greet the effort of
this restaurant. You may go to their branches of either Ballygunge or
Salt Lake. They have various Pithe-Puli like Gokul pithe, ros mug,
khuri pithe, mug dudh, chand pithe, patisapta and chanar puli. The
price of each item is between Rs 90 to 115.

500 Year's Old Nimai Tirtha Ghat - Reminiscences Of Sri Chaitannya Deb

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Then had started his journey to Tarakeswar on foot. It took about 12 hours to reach Tarakeswar. Later, the bathing ghat was named on him and now known to all as Nimai Tirtha Ghat. So, the ghat is about 500 year's old. Kabikankan Mukundaram mentioned this ghat in his mangal kabya, about 400 years ago. Raja Harishchandra of Seoraphuly constructed Nistarini Mandir and Bhadrakali Mandir in the year 1827 beside NimaiTirtha Ghat. then, lakhs of pilgrims take bath on river Ganga from this ghat and take holy water, visit Ma Nistarini and Debi Bhadrakali near, then use to go for Tarakeswar on foot to pour that Gangajal on the shiblinga of Baba Taraknath.
