173 Years Old Durga Puja Of Jorasanko Daw Bari

Durga puja of Jorasanko Daw family is well-known to all owing to
golden ornaments of debi Durga here. It says, debi Durga first use to
come to this house to decorate herself with the golden ornaments.
Shib Krishna Daw & Narasingha Daw - the two houses of Daw family. And
both the families perform Durga puja at their houses. But both of them
are famous for different reasons. Narasingha Daw is known for gun
business. And still use to decorate Ma Durga with golden ornaments.
'tikli' 'taira' on the head and forehead, 'sitahaar', 2 'satnari'
haar, 'lalantika' chain on the neck, and a long garland ornamented by
flowers of gold. Within this, a nice locket engraved 'Ma'. Bauti,
chur, churi, mantasa on the hands, 'tora' of silver on the foot, gold
rings on the ten fingers. Not only durga, her childrens also get
golden ornaments. Moreover, gold chain for 'Kala Bou', silver cap for
Kartick, silver 'খড়ম' for Ganesh etc. Gun is being used for Sandhi
puja.

Shib Krishna Daw's family also decorate debi Durga, but differently.
The golds are only use to decorate the 'chalchitra' on the back of
debi Durga.The idols are being covered with clothings and saris made
of velvet. Debi Durga use to wear century-old maroon coloured velvet
sari.

বলি or sacrifice is prohibited here. And instead of অন্নভোগ, চাল
(rice) and fruits, sweets use to serve here to the goddess.

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir Of Baranagar

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir of Baranagar, popularly known as Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is situated on the bank of river Hooghly at Baranagar of Kolkata. Baranagar is a very old place, more than 500 years ago this place was existed.  Famous zaminder Joyram Mitra of Sovabazar established this temple in mid-April of the year 1851. He bought about 3 bighas land at Baranagar from some James saheb and established the temple there similar to Brahmamoyee Kali temple of Mulajor of Shyamnagar.The goddess here is Dakshina Kali (দক্ষিণা কালী). If you walk from 'Kuthi ghat' of Baranagar river bank a few steps ahead, you'll reach to the temple - 171 years old this temple is situated by the side of Hara Kumar Thakur Strand.
