For the first time an egg has been hatched artificially at the Alipore
Zoo. The egg hatched on June 28 after being in the incubator for 25
days. A total no. of eggs (10-12) were brought to the hospital in
phased manner. Out of 12 eggs only one was fertiised. The artificial
method was taken to increase the peacock population in the zoo.
Earlier the veterinary doctors carried out trials with three lots of
poultry chicken eggs and they succeeded. Now the peachick is in good
health and would be displayed after six months. The vety doctor's next
venture is hatching of pheasants eggs.
