Today is the 93rd birthday of legendary singer Manna Dey. We're proud
to be with him. He loves
music, he loves to sing
still now. There are many reasons to love him, to love his songs. But,
Kolkatans are proud of him for some particular reasons.

First, Manna Dey born & brought up in Kolkata. And he get inspired by
his uncle, another legendary singer K C Dey who escort him to Bombay
for a future on national front.
Secondly, in spite of his fame, he never forgets his mother-tongue and
used to record each year evergreen Bengali songs. He also sang
hundreds of memorable songs in Bengali films.
Third, Manna Dey is one of those few singers who recorded so many
songs in almost all the regional languages of India.
Fourth, he is rated the best classical singer of Hindi films.
And lastly, Manna Dey recorded 3500 songs from which almost all the
songs are popular. Hence, in one word, Manna Dey is the name of a
legend. A very popular name.

500 Year's Old Nimai Tirtha Ghat - Reminiscences Of Sri Chaitannya Deb

It says that Nimai Sri Chaitannya Deb once came to district Hooghly for the pilgrimage of Tarakeswar. So he bathed in river Ganga on the bathing ghat of Baidyabati. Then had started his journey to Tarakeswar on foot. It took about 12 hours to reach Tarakeswar. Later, the bathing ghat was named on him and now known to all as Nimai Tirtha Ghat. So, the ghat is about 500 year's old. Kabikankan Mukundaram mentioned this ghat in his mangal kabya, about 400 years ago. Raja Harishchandra of Seoraphuly constructed Nistarini Mandir and Bhadrakali Mandir in the year 1827 beside NimaiTirtha Ghat. then, lakhs of pilgrims take bath on river Ganga from this ghat and take holy water, visit Ma Nistarini and Debi Bhadrakali near, then use to go for Tarakeswar on foot to pour that Gangajal on the shiblinga of Baba Taraknath.
