Airtel has launched today broadband wireless access (BWA) service in
Kolkata, based on 4G
technology. Union minister Kapil Sibal inaugurated this service in the
city today and said, what Kolkata thinks today, - India thinks tomorrow.
Airtel won the 4G spectrum licence for Maharastra, Kolkata, Punjab and
Karnataka circle. And decided to launch this service in Kolkata first.
The company
has been given 20 MHz of BWA
spectrum in 2.3 GHz frequency band, which is supposed to be
suitable for 4G. Airtel has
roped in China's ZTE Corp as the
network vendor partner for the
Kolkata circle.
