Satyajit Ray - the great film-maker of international fame
was born in Kolkata on 2 May. At the early age, he used to illustrate
book covers, advertisements etc but cherished the dream to make a
film. He chose a Bengali novel
named 'Pather Panchali' by Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay and made the
film of the same name by the grant-in-aid of West Bengal Government.
It took several years to complete the film due to paucity of funds.
However, the first film of Ray made history in the sphere of neo
cinema.--
