94th Birthday Of Satyajit Ray

Next 2nd May is the 94th birthday of Satyajit Ray. On this occasion, week long function would be organised from 1 May '15 - 7 May '15 at ICCR. Soumitra Chattopadhyay will inaugurate the function and he would deliver Satyajit Ray Memorial Speech. The previous orators are Javed Akhtar, Shyam Benegal, Naseeruddin Shah. This year, Chatterjee's subject of speech is: 'Satyajit & his actors'. The speech would be of half-n-hour duration. Chatterjee acted in 16 films of Ray - out of this, 14 feature film and 2 short film. He'll deliver the prestigious speech in Bengali. Some rare still photographs of Ray with Chatterjee would be exhibited there which were not produced earlier.
            After the inaugural function, Soumitra Chattopadhyay will inaugurate 'Prabandha Sangraha' - the compilation of essays and articles written by Satyajit Ray for various books and magazines. More than 50 essays will be there. "Smaran" - the remembrance - a section dedicated to many personalities would be there in the book in which Satyajit Ray recalled the persons like J L Nehru, Gangapada Basu, Rabindranath Tagore, Uday Shankar, Sukumar Roy, Upendra Kishore RoyChowdhury, Banshi Chandra Gupta, Dilip Kumar Gupta (D.K.).
          
           2 rare session of dialogues with eminent artist Binod Behari Mukhopadhyay and art critic Prithwis Neogi would be there in the book. A long article on Mozart would also be there. One can find in the book article on Rabindra Sangeet by Satyajit Ray. Moreover, on the occasion of Martyr's Day in 1972, the speech delivered by Ray at Paltan ground of Dacca would also be there in the book.

             Moreover, film festival of Satyajit Ray will go there started by 'Apur Sansar' (1959). Rare moments of Satyajit Ray captured by Banshi Chandra Gupta, Amanul Haque, Tarapada Bandyopadhyay, Hirak Sen, Sandip Ray etc will be exhibited there. Many photos of Ray collected from various institutions across Bengal will be exhibited here in the function for the first time. Above all, a lengthy unseen audio-visual interview of Ray produced by famous Director's Cut Productions of England in the year 1978 would be screened there on the last day of function.
