157th birth anniversary of great poet Rabindranath Tagore is being observed today not only in Bengal, but all over the world. The main programme is being held at Jorasanko Thakur Bari where the songs and poems written by Tagore are being performed by eminent artists. The rooms where the poet was born and breathed his lasts - were garlanded by distinguished persons. The other remarkable programme is now being held at Shantiniketan-Bolpur. Prayers are being performed in Upasana Griha (the room for prayers). 'Pranam'

In the year 1861, on this day (according to Bangla calendar) the great poet Rabindranath Tagore was born in Kolkata. He was reluctant to get formal education of school. But he educated himself with the help of private tutors. At the young age he went to England for further education. Literature, drawings and music - in every fields of cultural activities he had shown his proficiency. We're observing his 151 birthday. -- A. B.

Jorasanko 'Thakurbari' Celebrating 151 Birthday Of Rabindranath Thakur

This is the place in Kolkata where the great poet Rabindranath Tagore was born on this day 150 years ago. The premises called Jorasanko 'Thakur Bati'. The said premises is now Rabindra Bharati University. This morning, a cultural function was organised here to celebrate the birthday of Rabindranath.
