125 Years Of Star Theatre

On 25 May, in the year 1888, Star theatre of Kolkata started journey.
From Girish Ghosh to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, - so many personalities
arrived here and acted, participated again and again. But one day, in
the year 1991, fire broke at Star Theatre, and it burnt fully. After
13 years, this heritage theatre house re-opened with a renovated look
on 13 October, 2004.

Star Theatre - the century-old theatre house of the city witnessed
arrival of famous persons like Ramakrishna, Rabindranath who used to
sit at the front row to watch play. Even Swami Vivekananda first
introduced Sister Nivedita to all here in the year 1898.
So many stars of yesteryears like Nati Binodini, Saraju Debi, Shishir
Bhaduri, Dani Mitra, Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Gita Dey,
Sabitri Chattopadhyay, Madhabi Mukhopadhyay performed here.

Kolkata Corporation undertaken the Star Theatre and inaugurated again
on 25 May, 2012 to mark the starting point in the year 1888.
Yesterday's function at Star theatre was remarkable owing to the
felicitation of veteran film and stage actress Sabitri Chattopadhyay.
Uttam Kumar and Sabitri pair staged the drama 'Shyamali' in this
theatre at a stretch 468 nights. It was a big successful play acted by
matinee idol Uttam, who is no more with us, so they felicitated
Sabitri alone.
125 years ago, the social play 'Nasiram' was staged at this theatre as
the first play, so with this play the renovated theatre started its
journey yesterday. From now on, 2 days will be reserved for Bengal theatre each week and will remain cinema shows on other 5 days. --

Highest Jagadhatri Idol Of Chandannagar : Fatakgora

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir Of Baranagar

Kripamoyee Kali Mandir of Baranagar, popularly known as Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is situated on the bank of river Hooghly at Baranagar of Kolkata. Baranagar is a very old place, more than 500 years ago this place was existed.  Famous zaminder Joyram Mitra of Sovabazar established this temple in mid-April of the year 1851. He bought about 3 bighas land at Baranagar from some James saheb and established the temple there similar to Brahmamoyee Kali temple of Mulajor of Shyamnagar.The goddess here is Dakshina Kali (দক্ষিণা কালী). If you walk from 'Kuthi ghat' of Baranagar river bank a few steps ahead, you'll reach to the temple - 171 years old this temple is situated by the side of Hara Kumar Thakur Strand.
